MLC School has a dedicated careers team that assists families to make considered choices about your daughter's future.
We provide meaningful career development programs and advice and a full suite of diagnostic tools to assist students to make well informed decisions. Well before she completes Year 12, your daughter will have had extensive opportunities to meet staff from various universities, hear from professionals in a very wide range of fields and receive assistance with university applications.
We aim to empower young women so that they can become effective negotiators of their own careers well into the future. Our programs include:
Educational Assessment Program
This program provides all Year 10 students with personalised, detailed information so they are well prepared for future choices.
Subject Selection Program for Senior School
Making wise subject choices is critical to a students’ potential performance and overall enjoyment of their senior years. At MLC School we offer two senior programs, the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB), which are different in their style of learning, assessment style and variety of subject choice. We conduct individual interviews with each student and their parents, using all the data provided by the Careers and Educational Assessment Program, to provide guidance and support for the student in making her choices.
Work Experience Immersion Program
This high impact program for Year 10 students is more relevant today than ever before. The emergence of personal self-reliance has changed the employment landscape and it is important to expose young people to the world of work they will be entering. Students may also complete further work experience throughout Year 10 to Year 12 during the holiday periods under the school’s work experience insurance cover.
Transition Interview from Year 11 to Year 12 Program
The school provides further subject and academic counselling sessions for Year 11 students in their transition from Year 11 into Year 12.
Careers Program for Year 12 Students
This program provides an opportunity for students to receive more general course or career information and is an opportunity to hear from a wide range of speakers from diverse careers and industry sectors. Year 12 students are also able to access assistance for application for international study, as well as personalised support as the make decisions about post school destiantions.
Women in Media and Communications
The second Career Conversations breakfast: Women in Media and Communications, was held on Thursday 17 May 2018. Old Girls, Amanda Shalala (2003), from ABC Grandstand TV/Radio, Lucy Cormack (2009), from the Sydney Morning Herald, and Alicia Vrajlal (2009), who is the Yahoo 7 Entertainment Director, spoke to students from Year 10 to Year 12 about their different career paths and the opportunities that are available to them post-school.
