Active All Stars Program (Year 3 to Year 6)

Active All Stars is the perfect alternative for students who prefer not to take part in MLC School’s Saturday morning competitive sport but still want to stay active and have a blast. This program is all about learning new skills, making friends, and enjoying a variety of team games in a relaxed, inclusive setting. Whether your daughter loves running, jumping, throwing, or just mucking around with mates, Active All Stars encourages a love of movement, teamwork, and healthy habits, all without the pressure of competition.

AFL (Year 7 to Year 12)
When: Term 1
AFL is played between two teams on an oval-shaped field. Points are scored by kicking the ball between the goal posts (worth six points) or behind posts (worth one point).

Athletics training occurs each term and occasionally through the holidays during competition season. Students train in all disciplines (eg: sprints, throws, jumps and distance running).

Badminton (Year 7 to Year 12)
When: Term 1, Term 3 and Term 4
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. The most common forms of the game are ‘singles’ (with one player per side) and ‘doubles’ (with two players per side). Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side’s half of the court.

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five players each, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball through the defender’s hoop while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop.

Diving (Year 2 to Year 12)

The MLC School Diving Program provides students with the exciting opportunity to train year-round in MLC School's state-of-the-art Aquatic Centre. With both recreational and competitive pathways available, the program caters to divers of all experience levels. Beginner Recreational divers can train once or twice per week, while Competitive divers train up to three times weekly, including Friday nights at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) and Saturday afternoons at MLC School. Only Competitive divers are eligible to participate in weekend club competitions.
All first-time divers begin in the Recreational program before progressing to the Competitive pathway. Additional coaching fees apply for weekend SOPAC competitions. These sessions are optional and designed to support the development, confidence, and enjoyment of divers at every stage.
Please note: New students are required to complete a swimming assessment prior to registration.

MLC School Diving is constantly sourcing eligible competitions for the squad to enter. Divers enter competitions at their own discretion and must complete an annual registration individually with NSW Diving. Divers can then enter competitions individually under the MLC School banner. Divers and their families will be notified of eligible competitions via email from the Sports Department or via their coaches.

Fencing (Year 7 to Year 12)
When: Year-round (Term 1 to Term 4)
Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. Based on the traditional skills of swordsmanship, the modern sport arose at the end of the 19th century. There are three forms of modern fencing, each of which uses a different kind of weapon and has different rules; thus, the sport itself is divided into three competitive scenes: foil, épée, and sabre.
Fencers train year-round during term time. Registrations are taken each semester and students have to attend two sessions a week.

Uniform: PE uniform. Fencers are encouraged to purchase their own equipment if they want to pursue fencing competitively. Fencers must purchase their own mask.
Competitions: When they are ready to compete, fencers must register for membership with NSW Fencing. Fencers can then enter competitions individually or in teams under the MLC School banner. Fencers and their families will be notified of eligible competitions via their coach.

Gymnastics (Year 3 to Year 12)

The Gymnastics program at MLC School includes both Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics and operates from beginner through to advanced level. Space is limited in each class and any student with prior experience will require an assessment to confirm the most appropriate class, otherwise they can join the entry level class based on age.

Netball (Year 3 to Year 12)
When: Year 3 to Year 12: Term 2 and Term 3
Netball is a ball sport played with two teams of seven players. Each team attempts to score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through its goal ring. Players are assigned specific positions, which define their roles within the team and restrict their movement to certain areas of the court.
Netball Offerings:
Junior School students will play in the ERNA Competition.
Senior School students have the option to play in the ERNA competition or IGSA school-based competition.
Senior School students must choose ONE competition to register and commit to playing both Term 2 and Term 3.

Morning Water Sessions – Students must be dropped off at the MLC School Rowing Shed (White Street, Balmain) by 5am. They are transported to school after training.
Afternoon Water Sessions – Students meet in the Aquatic Centre car park to be transported to the training session. They can be picked up at the Rowing Shed by parents or carers at 5.45pm or take the bus back to school, returning by 6.30pm.
Afternoon Land Session – At school from 3.25pm to 4.45pm.

Skiers and snowboarders compete in races comprising two runs, across various disciplines, including Alpine, Slalom, Ski Cross, Moguls, Slopestyle and Cross-Country Skiing. Competitors can progress through to State and National championships. Parents/carers are responsible for transporting students to and from the snowfields, as well as accommodation.

Football (also known as soccer) is a team sport played with a spherical ball between two teams of 11 players. The game is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The object of the game is to score by moving the ball beyond the goal line into the opposing goal.

Swimming - Co-Curricular (Year 5 to Year 12)

MLC School’s Aquatic Centre enables MLC School students to train year-round in a 50m pool.
This is a Stroke Development and Fitness Program and not a Learn to Swim program. Acceptance into the program is based solely on ability and not on age. Coaches will assess students during their first session. If the coaches feel the student cannot safely participate in this program, parents/carers will be notified and a refund of fees will be given. Students should be able to swim 50m in all four strokes with the ability to maintain almost continuous swimming for one hour.

Tennis (Year 3 to Year 12)

Tennis is offered year-round. Students can choose between competitive and non-competitive Tennis and must register per semester. Students in the competitive program will compete in the Inter District competition, IGSA and IPSHA competitions according to their age groups.
Students may participate in the competitive program before school and the non-competitive program after school in small group training sessions, where progressions are made through group levels.
Competitive students in Year 7 to Year 12 who wish to be considered for the Tildesley Shield team will trial in Term 3 to be selected into the Representative Squad who will train throughout Term 4 in order to be considered for selection into the Tildesley team. These students will commit to the competitive program and are expected to play IGSA and Interdistrict competitions throughout the year.

Touch is a variation of rugby league with the tackling of opposing players replaced by a touch. As touches must be made with minimal force, touch is therefore a limited-contact sport.

Volleyball (Year 7 to Year 12)
When: Term 2, Term 3 and Term 4
Volleyball is a game for two teams, usually of six players, in which a large ball is hit by hand over a high net, the aim being to score points by making the ball reach the ground on the opponent’s side of the court.
In Term 2 and Term 3, teams compete in the Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College competition on Friday evening. In Term 4, teams compete in either the Santa Sabina Invitational or the PLC Sydney Indoor Competition. Competitions are based on grading and students can only play in ONE competition in Term 4.
