Craft Club is an inclusive club where all Senior School girls are given a chance to partake in hands-on activities every Wednesday, such as making jewellery, slime, or even decorating cupcakes! The club is well received by girls across the school, offering a place for them to nurture their friendships. The club also supports the Days for Girls charity, and often decorates sweet treats for the Early Bird cafe, where we are able to give to the homeless.

Da Vinci Decathlon is an exciting, fun, team based, inter-disciplinarian set of activities. A team of eight girls is selected to compete with over 40 other schools in a day of fast-paced challenges. The emphasis for this day is on higher order thinking skills, time management and team collaboration. Students participate in activities in the following disciplines:

Drama Club is a student-led club run by the MLC School Drama Captain. This provides students from Year 6 to Year 12 an opportunity to work with students with a passion for theatre and further develop their skills. During lunchtimes students play Drama games to sharpen their knowledge of theatrical styles, watch an array of theatre and work on small scenes with students from across grade levels. Overall, Drama Club is an inclusive and immersive experience for any student with a passion for performing and a great place to make connections with people who have a passion for theatre.

Ethics Olympiad (Year 7 to Year 12)
At each Ethics Olympiad meeting students discuss a different ethical case where members engage in thoughtful discussions on real-world ethical issues. Diverse perspectives are encouraged and crucial to having the club run well. The club discusses cases on a range of topics from the ethics of countries with human rights abuse records hosting international sporting events to child influencers. Although each of the cases come with set questions, the aim is have the conversation flow naturally, which results in engaging and thought-provoking discussions guided by the students.

Jesus In School Time (JIST) is one of the weekly School ministry programs. This Christian group in Senior School is an invaluable opportunity of inquiry and learning, for girls to explore their faith and spirituality through thoughtful discussion, reflective reading of Scripture, and creative expression. It’s led by students and facilitated by the Chaplains and a few teachers. Students come together other lunch, and are inspired to grow, learn and be encouraged in Christ.

Mathsketeers is MLC School’s mathematics enrichment program for selected Year 7 and Year 8 students who are passionate about maths. The program challenges students to think creatively, develop strong reasoning skills, and explore mathematics beyond the classroom.

Mock Trial Competition (Year 10 and Year 11)
The Law Society of New South Wales Mock Trial Competition has been running since 1981 and is open to schools across NSW for students in Year 10 and Year 11. The competition aims to introduce students to the NSW judicial system by providing practical experience into the running of a court case in a true-to-life adversarial setting. Students learn advocacy, debating and problem-solving skills.
The Competition consists of three rounds run on a round-robin basis, followed by five knock out rounds. Each round, MLC School will select a team that of six students who play the roles of barristers, solicitors, court officers, magistrate’s clerks and witnesses. MLC School will play the role of the Prosecution/Plaintiff or Defence team and be allocated against an opposition school. The Law Society will provide the ‘case’ for each round alternating between simple criminal and civil matters heard in the Local or District Court.

Model United Nations (MUN) (Year 7 to Year 12)
Model UN engages hundreds of thousands of students each year, helping them to learn more about the principles of the UN and how it functions. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts – including at the UN itself – participated in Model UN as students.

Possum Pouch Knitting (Year 7 to Year 12)
Students are invited to knit pouches for orphaned marsupials, including joeys of possums and kangaroos. No prior knitting experience is required.
The pouches are made using circular looms and hooks. Instruction and support will be provided to help students learn the technique. Students who already know how to use crochet or knitting needles are also welcome to participate.
In Term 1, priority is given to students completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award. From Term 2 onwards, the program is open to all interested students.
Depending on the number of participants, students may be asked to purchase their own circular knitting loom and wool.

Student Representative Council (SRC) Elective Reps (Year 7 to Year 12)
Student Representative Council (SRC) provides an opportunity for all students to contribute to their school. SRC discusses changes and improvements they would like to make to the school environment and work together to make these changes happen.
The SRC works together to ensure the voice of all students is listened to. Past achievements include organising school activities and working with the Round Square committee to run Round Square Week, a celebration of international diversity.

STEM Club (Year 7 to Year 12)
STEM Club is for students who have interest in any of the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or application of Art and Design.
STEAM Society provides a range of opportunities and activities to combine knowledge and interest in STEAM subject areas to complete a variety of hands-on activities, investigations, projects and competitions. STEAM Society also offers opportunities to explore careers in STEAM-related areas and improve skills in team-building and leadership.
The Society is student-led and the projects are inquiry based. Students can work on projects that suit their interests and aptitudes. Projects are a combination of long-term, ongoing and stand alone for those who are new to these types of activities. Most importantly, the projects are fun, allowing students to explore STEAM subjects in innovative and inventive ways outside the curriculum. If you enjoy learning-by-doing, projects, tinkering, seeing how stuff works or making stuff work – then this group is for you.
