Sport is an integral part of the MLC School life and plays and important part in the development of the "whole person". MLC has a proud sporting tradition and we applaud those who give it a go as much as those who excel. Sport also helps the girls develop many qualities they can rely on now, and in later life such as teamwork, leadership and fair play. Girls from all age groups are strongly encouraged to participate in the wide variety of sports offered. Year 7 have a compulsory involvement in sport and must play two terms of either a Saturday Competition Sport or another sport offered after school during the week. MLC has had some impressive performances at Inter-School Competitions. Firstly, in an outstanding performance by MLC Swimming Team. Five years ago we placed 17th, however in recent years we have maintained a top 4 ranking. The future is looking particularly bright for MLC swimming with some remarkable talent in the junior years. With so many talented athletes and not enough races, many courageous and unselfish MLC swimmers compete consistently in high age groups to get MLC the maximum points. That is the spirit that makes swimming at MLC such a fantastic team sport in which to be involved. The consolidation of the swimming team performance has been the result of access to on-site state-of-the-art facilities in the MLC Aquatic Centre and the depth of experience in the MLC coaching staff under Head Coach Mr John Bladon.
MLC is also moving up the tennis rankings with an outstanding overall 5th place in the 2008 Tildesley Shield. For the second year in a row, MLC players contested the coveted single crown and this year saw our No. 1 doubles combination contest the doubles final. This was in addition our Tennis Firsts winning the Saturday morning IGSSA Tennis Premiership for the top division. Under the guidance of MLC coaches, Mr Ross Anton and Mr Ludevic Catherine the improvement is very evident as is the strong camaraderie and team spirit of the MLC tennis players.
Sport is Social and unites us as a SchoolOne of our highlights every term is Grand Finals Day. At the end of each season MLC Awards its Best and Fairest and Most Improved in every team. These Saturdays see the MLC community out in force to cheer on our finalists and to wrap-up and say thank you for the season . Our Year 12 Sports Committee works hard to make the day enjoyable and fun for all our families.
