Tournament of Minds

As part of MLC School 's commitment to catering for Gifted and Talented Students the school enters Junior and Senior Teams in Tournament of Minds. TOM club beings in Term 2 in Kent House where all girls interested are able to spend an afternoon a week solving challenging social science and literature and language problems in creative ways. Once teams are selected for the competition, they are facilitated by teachers, but very independently prepare their solutions for the statewide competition.

In the last five years MLC has achieved a remarkable TOM record being State Champions, National Champions and has received State and/or Regional Honours each year.

MLC's Year 10 Siler Medal winning Da Vinci Decathlon Team

Da Vinci Decathlon

MLC School has competed in the da Vinci Decathlon since its inception at Knox Grammar School and approaches the 10 area academic challenge completion with huge enthusiasm. The competition is fun but fierce with more than 35 schools competing, answering difficult questions and problems in areas such as decoding, forensic sleuthing, poetry and creative design.

Team selection at MLC is by a number of criteria and the peer nomination process is a great affirmation by school friends of academic ability, creativity and team spirit.

In 2008 MLC won

  • The Silver Medal for the Year 10 Competition
  • 5 First place Category placings

In 2006 MLC won

  • The Gold Medal for the Year 8 Competition
  • The Bronze Medal for the Year 6 Competition
  • 4th Place for the Year 10 Competition

In 2005 MLC won

  • The Gold Medal for the Year 7 Competition

In 2004 MLC won

  • The Silver Medal for the Year 5 Competition
  • The Silver Medal for the Year 7 Competition
  • The Silver medal for the Year 8 Competition

In 2003 MLC won

  • The Silver Medal for the Year 7 Competition
  • The Bronze Medal for the Year 8 Competition
