Exchanges - National and InternationalMLC recognises the need to develop active, critical learners who will take the initiative in extending their knowledge of the world. One of those challenges is to become a global citizen, and how better to equip our students for an ever changing world than meeting, sharing ideas and living with other students from within Australia and around the world.
HostingHosting is as important as travelling and MLC School encourages families to enjoy the fun, warmth and enrichment for the whole family of hosting children from around Australia and the world. Hosting experiences for MLC families have included student choristers from Scandinavia and Slovakia, sports students from Victoria, Queensland and South Australia, students form Broken Hill high School as a return of hospitality from our visits to the NSW country town and international schools' representatives from Drama Workshops. One of the most beneficial aspects of billeting a student with a like interest is the friendships that are made and that last after the exchange. Email can then make the connections truly global.
ExchangeExchange at MLC is available nationally and internationally through Round Square in schools that aim to develop the whole person through academic, physical, cultural and spiritual experiences. Also foreign language exchange is available to Germany and France, and to our sister school in Seitoku, Japan.
Round SquareRound Square is a worldwide association of schools sharing unique and ambitious goals. Round Square schools impel the young into challenging, instructive experiences, through which they can develop responsibility and care for humanity, commitment to principles, skill and confidence needed for effective service and leadership and a global perspective on society and the environment. MLC School joined the group of schools as an Associate Member in November 2002 and hopes to become a full member in 2006. Round Square schools function around six pillars – I.D.E.A.L.S.
I International Understanding Programs initiated by Round Square help institutionally and culturally different, but like-minded schools to work together through service projects, annual conferences, exchanges, and outdoor expeditions. Each year Round Square schools send teams of representatives to a five-day conference held at a member school. Discussions, related to the theme of the conference, examine topics of importance to the member schools and the world. Friendships are made through activities, expeditions and events organised by the host school. Visitors are introduced, not only to the host school, but also the country, the culture and environment. Australian connections with Round Square currently see our students exchange with schools within Australia in Western Australia, Victoria and the Northern Territory. Overseas exchanges are available in Canada, South Africa, Peru, England, Scotland, America and India. |
