Planning a Successful Reunion

Reunions are a terrific way to stay in touch with School friends, renew social contacts and perhaps make some valuable professional ones. Holding reunions at intervals of ten years (or even five years) are popular. Regional reunions are also regularly held. Recently these have been held in the Southern Highlands, Canberra and Brisbane. Remember that the longer you leave it, the harder it can be to track down members of your year group. It is advisable to book your reunion at least 6-8 months in advance. Invitations should be sent at least eight weeks prior to the event.

The School holds three 'Reunion Saturdays' each year and runs two reunions on each day. When no organiser makes contact with the School, we simply book the date of the reunion as it falls due into the calendar and publicise it in Lucis.

Contact Mrs Yvonne Kaloterakis from the Community Relations team. She can:

  • assist and advise your reunion committee about catering, appropriate venue, invitations and photography, even the small details such as table decorations, name tags and background music.
  • advertise forthcoming reunions in Lucis and use our database to undertake mail outs.
  • receive replies to invitations, manage the guest list, collect monies and arrange for disbursements.
  • arrange for archival material to be on display.
  • be there to ensure that your reunion runs smoothly and to host an optional School tour. (There have been many changes!)

Under no circumstances are lists of former students to be used for any purpose other than organising the reunion. Year lists are not to be distributed to any other organisations. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for further details.

Reunion Venues

Opened in September, 1998, the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) is a marvellous four storey building housing the library and a number of specialist computer labs. A lift provides easy access to Level 3, The Ailsa Butcher Room. The whole of this top floor forms a modern function space with the capacity to seat up to 180 guests. It is enclosed with glass on three sides, and affords spectacular panoramic views of the city and Harbour Bridge . The wide verandah provides another space to chat with friends over a celebratory glass of champagne or wine.

  • Potts Hall - Built in 1926 the Hall holds up to 250 people seated at round tables. It has a kitchen facility comprising instant hot water, refrigerator, ample bench space, sink and dishwashing machine. Potts Hall has a piano and is readily accessible to restroom facilities.
  • The Sutherland Rooms, at the base of the Schofield tower, are a charming part of the old school and one of the few areas to survive intact after the fire in 1977 that destroyed the Boarding House. An intimate space for approximately 30 guests, its tessellated tile verandah flows onto the Principal's Lawn.
  • Adjacent to the Sutherland Rooms, the newly refurbished Staff Room is also an option for luncheons for up to sixty guests.

Reunion Catering and Costing

No reunion is complete without food and drink. Wine and champagne (but no spirits) may be served. For School-based reunions you may select your own caterer or Community Relations can suggest a reputable company.

When compiling a price for your reunion, remember other costs will be incurred beside the largest cost - catering. A small sum - around $5.00 per person - should be included to cover postage of invitations, information, stationery, flowers, and to cover the costs of any special guests. If you plan to produce an extensive reunion booklet check on printing or production costs as a $5.00 surcharge will probably not cover such a publication as well as other administrative expenses. Such booklets are very popular and most former students will generally pay an extra $5.00 to $6.00 for such a memento.
