Keeping in Touch

Keeping track of the MLC Alumni is one of the most important tasks of the Community Relations Office at MLC School. Our database currently holds over 10,000 entries and it is very important that we keep the information as current and accurate as possible. Each year we hold reunions in groups of ten years and in particular regions of Australia, as this is one of the most effective ways of keeping in touch.

Lucis ~ The Magazine of the MLC School Family

Twice a year (in June and December) we mail Lucis Magazine to keep the MLC Alumni up to date with what is happening for former students as well as what is happening at MLC School today. If you have contributions for the Collegiate section of Lucis regarding what has been happening for you in your career and personal life we would love to hear your news. Please send contributions to editor@mlcsyd.nsw.edu.au or contact Pam Hatfield on Tel: 61 02 8741 3178.

Chaplains to the MLC School Community

The Community of MLC School reaches throughout history and geography to include the current students of the School and their families, ex-students, and the staff of the School. The Chaplains are here to extend pastoral care and support to those of our community during their special times of celebration and to mark significant moments of loss and grief.

  • Weddings
The MLC School Chapel is available for Weddings to be celebrated in the tradition of the Uniting Church of Australiafor members of the MLC School Community. The Chaplains are experienced at arranging creative and beautiful ceremonies. The beautiful stained glass windows of the Chapel highlight the sanctity of these occasions. Marriage Preparation courses are arranged through the ELM Centre’s “To Have and to Hold” program (http://elm.org.au/) and the Chaplains can provide marriage preparation counselling. The Chapel is not usually available for weddings during school holidays or on long weekends. Contact the Chaplains to enquire about booking the Chapel for your wedding date.
  • Baptisms
Old Girls of MLC School regularly make contact with the school to arrange for the baptism of their child. Baptism is a very special sacrament of the world wide Christian Church; a public ceremony of initiation which takes place during the normal worship time of a community. The foundational document for the Uniting Church, The Basis of Union, affirms: “The Uniting Church will baptise those who confess the Christian faith, and children who are presented for baptism and for whose instruction and nourishment in the faith the Church takes responsibility.”

Baptisms at MLC School take place during or immediately following a Sunday house service attended by students and families of the School. Representatives from the baptismal candidate’s local congregation attend the service to welcome this new member of the church.

The dates available for services of baptism are set for each year, and are available from the Chaplains.

  • Funerals
The Chaplains are available for the pastoral care and support for members of our community dealing with the sudden decline in health or death of a relative or close friend. This support can range from gentle conversations, hospital or home visitations, bereavement counselling for students, leading the funeral, and the use of the Chapel for memorial services.
