The Ailsa Butcher Room is named after the first Patron of MLC School, Mrs Ailsa Butcher, (Thompson '36) in recognition of her very generous donation to the MLC School Foundation during the Capital Appeal launched in 1996 before the construction of the Independent Learning Centre. The room, located on the 3rd or top floor of the ILC is a large full floor open plan seminar room that accommodates lectures, training sessions, information evenings, guest speakers, House and Year Group meetings as well as departmental and specialist meetings. It is also the primary Function Centre for MLC School events such as P & F Meetings/Forums and most School Reunions including the Boarders' Banquet and the Sapphires' Luncheon. The external balcony wraps on three sides with views over much of Sydney, most notably the uninterrupted views to the city of Sydney which are quite spectacular in the evening.
