About the Principal Denice Scala
Mrs Denice Scala, BA, Dip Ed, Dip RSA, COGE, M Ed, was appointed Principal of MLC School in May 2011.
Denice is a visionary educational leader with a proven track record in creating vibrant learning cultures that set high expectations and offer creative possibilities where students and staff flourish. Described by those who have worked with her as a trailblazer and an educational pioneer, Denice’s engaging manner sees possibilities and wins commitment from staff, students and the wider community in pursuit of excellence in education.
Formerly the Principal at St Andrew’s School, Adelaide, Denice has had previous appointments as Head of Junior School at St Catherine’s Sydney, Head of a Learning Support Department at Dollar Academy Scotland and she is no stranger to MLC School, having previously been a Gifted & Talented Teacher here. In each of these positions Denice has been active in supporting and advancing the quality of teaching and leadership in schools. She is an accomplished and experienced leader with a deep compassion for students.
Denice recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Neuroscience from Flinders University, focusing her studies on how the latest developments in brain research can shape optimal learning experiences.
Denice’s philosophy is one of preparing our students to be world ready; graduates with a sense of self who can be agents of change in their own lives and the lives of others. With an international perspective, she celebrates the School’s cultural diversity, and honours the identity of every student, acknowledging that their stories contribute to our shared identity.
To support the girls’ learning programs she continues to build sustainable partnerships with the local and extended MLC School Community.
Denice’s warm and sincere interpersonal approach can be seen in her daily interactions with students who readily offer to share their lives with her.
She embraces a collaborative and creative culture because she believes that creative thinkers pioneer new ideas. Under her inspirational leadership, and in the MLC School tradition, building on our past endeavours, the School moves to the next phase of development as a leading and innovative learning organisation.
